BLOB NEWS

National Geographic News | Giant, Mucus-Like Sea Blobs on the Rise, Pose Danger

Christine Dell'Amore
October 8, 2009

Beware of the blob—this time, it's for real.

As sea temperatures have risen in recent decades, enormous sheets of a mucus-like material have begun forming more often, oozing into new regions, and lasting longer, a new Mediterranean Sea study says (sea "mucus" blob pictures).

And the blobs may be more than just unpleasant.

Up to 124 miles (200 kilometers) long, the mucilages appear naturally, usually near Mediterranean coasts in summer. The season's warm weather makes seawater more stable, which facilitates the bonding of the organic matter that makes up the blobs (Mediterranean map).

Now, due to warmer temperatures, the mucilages are forming in winter too—and lasting for months.

Until now, the light-brown "mucus" was seen as mostly a nuisance, clogging fishing nets and covering swimmers with a sticky gel—newspapers from the 1800s show beach-goers holding their noses, according to study leader Roberto Danovaro, director of the marine science department at the Polytechnic University of Marche in Italy.

But the new study found that Mediterranean mucilages harbor bacteria and viruses, including potentially deadly E. coli, Danovaro said. Those pathogens threaten human swimmers as well as fish and other sea creatures, according to the report, published September 16 in the journal PloS One.

Runaway Box Car Derails In Adams County

Covered Car Filled With Plastic Pellets

3:13 pm MDT October 8, 2009A runaway rail way car headed to the Denver area was stopped when it derailed near 60th Avenue and Federal Boulevard in Adams County Thursday morning.Steve Forsberg, spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe, said the car had been standing still on the track when it rolled uncontrolled down the tracks. It rolled east "several miles" because of the downward slope, Forsberg said. The car stopped at the junction where Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks join Union Pacific tracks.

Forsberg said the car was loaded with condensed plastic pellets, which are not considered hazardous. Some of the pellets spilled when the car tipped over but because the car was covered, not all of the material spilled. The pellets are the raw form of plastic used to make various plastic products, he said.BNSF is investigating what caused the car to roll.No one was injured, no rail traffic was affected and no property was damaged, Forsberg said. The line that the car had been sitting on ends in Golden and is not used heavily.Three counties -- Adams, Denver, and Jefferson Counties -- were all called out to handle the runaway car.It was first reported at about 8:30 a.m.

I am beginning to conclude I have too many interests for my research and study - and way too little time in one day. We are definitely living in EPIC TIMES. The world-wide web has awakened alot of the global populous to the historical reality that nation/states are not run by their governmental puppets, but rather by those bankers behind them.

Be aware that huge quakes on the planet AFFECT the tectonic plates. The 2004 tsunami was the result of the cracking of a tectonic plate. When the Pacific plate cracks it will be ugly.

The magnetic activity affecting our sun is going to only keep increasing. The following is an article disclosing solar activity taking place :

GREAT SOLAR ACTIVITY: NASA's twin STEREO spacecraft are stationed 150 million miles apart on nearly opposite sides on the sun. Because of their opposing points of view, the two spacecraft normally see different things. The events of Sept. 26th and 27th, however, were not normal. A magnetic filament reared up from the surface of the sun so large that both spacecraft were able to watch it unfold for a whopping 30 hours. Click on the image to launch a 28 MB Quicktime movie:

In the movie, STEREO-A's view appears on the right, STEREO-B's on the left. From one side, the filament appears dark and shadowy, backlit by the fiery surface of the sun below. From the other side, the filament itself appears fiery, outlined by the dark backdrop of space beyond the sun. Astronomers have never seen solar activity in this way before, and there is much to be learned from the increasingly complete view STEREO provides. More images may be found in the STEREO Selects (http://stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov/gallery/selects.shtml)photo gallery.

International Living with a Star (ILWS)

Scientists of several countries will be in Brazil to present researches regarding to solar changeability influence on geophysics and heliospheric phenomena. The International Living With a Star – ILWS, from October 4 to 9, in Ubatuba (SP), is sponsored by National Institute for Space Research (INPE), and by National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA.

The event will discuss about the following themes: Influence of the geomagnetic and solar activity on the earth climate; Magnetosphere; ionosphere; heliosphere; electrodynamics of low latitude, and severe magnetic thunderstorm.

Phenomena as severe geomagnetic thunderstorm, which happen when energetic particles and very intense magnetic fields emitted by Sun cross the interplanetary and Interact with the Earth geomagnetic Field, might cause damage in satellites and affect the telecommunications and the Global Positioning System.

MORNING MATH LESSON:

WHERE IS THE MAINSTREAM NEWS ON THIS EVENT?

REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- A leading member of the Icelandic parliament called Monday night for the country to declare a debt moratorium and stop attempting to pay the $6 billion which the British and Netherlands governments are seeking to extort from Iceland with the help of the International Monetary Fund and the European Commission in Brussels. This dramatic call was issued by Birgitta Jónsdóttir, the chairman of the parliamentary faction of The Movement in the Icelandic parliament, the Althing. Birgitta Jónsdóttir was speaking during a special session of the Althing called to address the rapidly deteriorating economic and financial position of Iceland, one year after the collapse of the three hot-money offshore banks, Landsbanki, Kaupthing, and Glitnir.

In her remarks, Birgitta Jónsdóttir observed that Iceland is already technically bankrupt, and ought to cease payment. She also pointed to the hostility to Iceland of the IMF and EU. The current prime minister, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, who leads a moribund coalition of Social Democrats and Left Greens, had attempted to justify her policy of financial appeasement of the British and Dutch. London and The Hague are demanding $6 billion in restitution for losses incurred by private Icelandic bankers operating in their countries as Icesave, even though the Icelandic government had never guaranteed these operations, and even though British and Dutch regulators were deeply implicated in the Icesave debacle, which came in the wake of the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy.

The sum demanded by the British and the Dutch from Iceland in an operation spearheaded by the widely hated UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown would amount to about half of the yearly Gross Domestic Product of Iceland, a country with about 330,000 inhabitants. If the Anglo-Dutch were attempting to perform a proprortional extortion on the United States, they would be demanding about $8 trillion . The British and Dutch are also determined to collect at least 5.5% compound interest, meaning that Iceland's obligation would grow over time, even if substantial payments were made. If the politically desperate Brown and his Dutch retainer Balkenende get their way, Icesave will turn into Iceslave a future of poverty, unemployment, depopulation, and national collapse for Iceland, which could never pay the sums being demanded.

In a related development, Icelandic Health Minister Ogmundur Jonasson, a highly respected leader of the Left Green Party, resigned from the coalition government in protest against the economic policies being pursued. Specifically, Ogmundur Jonasson stated in interviews that he could not in conscience support the Icesave sellout, as the prime minister was demanding. Ogmundur Jonasson is widely regarded as a possible candidate for prime minister. His resignation is considered the de facto start of a government crisis likely to lead to the fall of the current coalition, perhaps as early as mid-October.

Birgitta Jónsdóttir's The Movement faction is the product of a mass strike upsurge which gripped Iceland from October 2008 to January 2009, with frequent large-scale demonstrations against the previous right-wing coalition government, which had imposed the monetarist de-regulation of the Icelandic banking system, leading to the banking crisis of last autumn. Birgitta Jónsdóttir and her associates were originally elected as part of a larger group called the Civic Movement, from which they split when the Civic Movement took a course of opportunism.
Birgitta Jónsdóttir has now placed the question of a debt moratorium squarely on the international agenda. Her courageous move shows that small countries can move world history by providing leadership for humanity in times of crisis when existing institutions are increasingly paralyzed and corrupt. In recent months, political forces in the Philippines and Sri Lanka had raised the question of debt moratoria, as had the leaders of UNCTAD. With the news coming from Iceland, the formation of an international debtors' cartel to confront London, Wall Street, and the IMF has suddenly become a real possibility. Scientists from the city’s weather forecast service say there is nothing supernatural about it, however.

“It’s a purely optical effect, even if a spectacular one. You can see really strange things if you watch the clouds regularly,” Vesti24 TV channel, which published a mobile phone camera video sent to them by an eyewitness, cites the service.

“Several air fronts have passed Moscow recently, including an inflow of cold air from Arctic, and they combined to produce such a phenomenon,” the source added.

Market Ticker | Will America Become Detroit??????

October 07, 2009

Under the current Zombulation Policy, much of America may become just like Detroit....but this time America may not have America to help it out like Detroit.

Thousands Line Up For Stimulus Money in Detroit........

DETROIT -- Detroit's homeless and low-income residents have another opportunity for a chance at millions of stimulus dollars.

The money is available to help low-income residents from becoming homeless and homeless residents to find housing.

Thousands of people lined up Tuesday.

Some people in line falsely believed they were registering for $3,000 stimulus checks from the Obama Administration.

Just like Detroit was dependent on the Auto Industry, America is dependent on the Domestic Leveraged Consumer. Without massive borrowing, America really doesn't have much of an Economy....whether it be consumer borrowing or government borrowing.

And without having the reserve currency, America will have a tough time borrowing.

And guess what the world is up to right now????? Pretty soon, Obama will be facing one of two choices, restructure our economy or attack the world............let's see which one he picks.

It can go down as Antarctica's prettiest mountain that doesn't actually exist.

Our friend Jeff Fogg, who is from Issaquah but working a 6-month tour as a heavy equipment operator down at McMurdo Station on Antarctica, sent another great photo from his arctic environment.

This is of a mirage-like phenomenon called "Fata Morgana." It has to do with light rays being reflected as the light travels through different densities of air masses, most likely related to temperature differences.

Here is a more complete explanation.

Homeless Tent City Camp Gets Attention
Landowner May Allow Tents to Stay

Visalia, California - Visalia and county officials and advocates for the homeless are to meet today to try and find a solution to the growing homeless tent city on the northern boundary of Visalia.

The 1:30 p.m. meeting at the Tulare County Sheriff's Department, 2404 W. Burrel, Visalia, will bring together social service providers, law enforcement and public officials to find alternative housing for those camped out along the banks of the Saint Johns River, west of Ben Maddox.

Late Monday, it was reported that the property owner had decided to not only let the tents stay, but that she may provide electricity, water and porta potties.

City officials have become concerned about the camp, with Mayor Jesus Gamboa suggesting two weeks ago that the city provide water and portable toilets. That motion before the city council was defeated by a 4-1 vote, with those against it pointing out the encampment is outside of the city limits. By some estimates, the camp has around 100 people living there. Tents and makeshift tents are spread out over several hundred yards.

“The reason for the meeting is that we had complaints,” said Capt. Dave Williams of the Tulare County Sheriff's Department Patrol Division. “We've contacted all the property owners and they said they don't want them on the property.”

This kind of civic partnership to deal with a local homeless issue may be among the first of its kind. “I haven't seen other cities do anything like this,” Williams said. “I looked on the Internet and haven't found anything like this.

“The philosophy of policing has changed a lot,” he added. “We're more focused on developing partnerships rather than pushing the problem into other areas.”

“We're willing to be part of the committee,” said Jessica Van Ginkel, public relations manager at Visalia Rescue Mission, which serves an average of 550 meals a day, every day of the year. “We're here to help and we want to be part of the solution.
“We have beds available,” she added. “There is no reason they have to be at the (homeless) community.”

Van Ginkel said that a lot of people from the community come in for meals, but explained that there are two main reasons they choose not to stay overnight. “They have to be free from drugs and alcohol, and we separate the men and women.” She added that the Visalia Rescue Mission offers a program to help people overcome their dependence on alcohol and drugs.

“I think we should be part of the solution, and be part of the team,” said Gamboa. “There's a portion of CDBG (Community Development Block Grants) that allows for dealing with the homeless issue.

“If we evict them, where do you think they're going to go?” he asked. “They're going to come to Visalia.”

According to Mark McPhee of HomeLand Missions, one of the property owners in the area, after seeing the encampment, is now willing to allow people to camp on her property.

“When she saw with her own two eyes and saw the ministry – the people and those who were there helping these people – God changed her heart about them leaving,” he reported in an email. “She then went and got her children and grandchildren and took them down there and said, 'This is all your inheritance and you make sure to take care of these people!'”

He added that the woman plans to provide electricity, running water, a trash dumpster and portable toilets at the site.

If that is true, the legal issue would shift from trespassing to code compliance, with officials looking at violations such as substandard housing and insufficient utilities, according to Williams.

Some of those at today's meeting don't believe that all of the people will want to leave the homeless community, no matter what solutions are found. “A lot of people are not relocatable because there are a lot of issues,” Gamboa said.
