(even though the levels are reported as safe -- even though my geiger counters returned 48CPM -- still makes me nervous knowing small amounts are free floating in the air). Clearly -- NO ONE is around outside --- no workers taking tests like one might think they would be doing after a venting issue. |

10 states get education waivers
AP -President Barack Obama on Thursday will free 10 states from the strict and sweeping requirements of the No Child Left Behind education law in exchange for promises to improve the way schools teach and evaluate students. The move is a tacit acknowledgement that the law's main goal, getting all students up to par in reading and math by 2014, is not within reach. The first 10 states to receive the waivers are Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Tennessee, the White House said. Food Safety News - In a victory for raw-milk farmers, Maine's Portland City Council has given a unanimous thumbs-up to allow raw-milk sales at the city's farmers' markets. The City Council also handed the dairy farmers another victory by voting 5 to 4 against an amendment that would have required them to post a placard informing consumers of the potential health risks linked to drinking raw milk.

AP - A spat over forgetting to wish his wife a happy birthday landed a South Florida man in jail on domestic violence charges. When Judge "Jay" Hurley heard the circumstances that brought 47-year-old Joseph Bray to bond court Tuesday, he issued a unique ruling. Hurley ordered Bray to buy a birthday card and flowers for his wife before taking her to dinner at Red Lobster and bowling afterward. Hurley ruled the couple should begin seeing a marriage counselor immediately.
