Morning News Update | November 16, 2009

Good Monday Morning ... still weeding through my Google Email News Alerts - have over 150+ yet to read. The Asian markets opened last night when we were going to bed and with the Prez in Asia - the news is hot and heavy!

The government-corporate media in our country may regard our Prez as a celebrity - but the Asian press sees him as a figure-head of a nation so deep in debt that we are running government printing presses nonstop creating worthless paper money. They aren't impressed by the Prez's ongoing need to only talk with the use of his teleprompter and his "slick talk" - they say look at actions and they don't see our country doing anything about raising interest rates or stopping the national debt. The Asians nations can't get out of our US$ dollar fast enough.

As soon as the Asian markets opened last night - gold shot up and the US$ shot down.

WHY DOES THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT KEEP AMERICANS DUMBED DOWN ABOUT WEATHER MODIFICATION?
VENEZUELA AND CUBA KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON!

Drudge Report Morning Headline

CHAVEZ ASKS CUBANS TO 'BOMB CLOUDS' AMID DROUGHT
CARACAS, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez says he will join a team of Cuban scientists on flights to "bomb clouds" to create rain amid a severe drought that has aroused public anger due to water and electricity rationing. Chavez, who has asked Venezuelans to take three-minute showers to save water, said the Cubans had arrived in Venezuela and were preparing to fly specially equipped aircraft above the Orinoco river. "I'm going in a plane; any cloud that crosses me, I'll zap it so that it rains," Chavez said at a ceremony late on Saturday with family members of five Cubans convicted of spying in the United States. Many countries have programs aimed at altering weather patterns, commonly known as cloud seeding, although the effectiveness of such techniques is disputed. Firing silver iodine at clouds is one common method. China uses rockets loaded with the chemical to spur rainfall in arid regions. Chavez did not say what technology the Cubans will use. Venezuela has suffered water and electricity shortages this month after a drought caused by the El Nino weather phenomenon led to critically low water levels at several reservoirs in the oil-exporting nation. The government has been criticized for poor planning after it was forced to impose strict water rationing in the capital Caracas and power rationing in other parts of the country. Venezuela produces much of its electricity from hydroelectric projects, including the giant El Guri dam close to the Orinoco. Chavez provides Cuba with subsidized oil and is a close friend of the communist island's former leader Fidel Castro. Chavez said Castro was in excellent health and invited the Cuban to participate in a trade conference he is hosting next month in Havana. Castro has not been seen in public since undergoing intestinal surgery in 2006. (Reporting by Frank Jack Daniel; Editing by Eric Walsh)

WORD OF THE DAY: oligarchy

An oligarchy is a form of government in which power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society distinguished by royal, wealth, banking, intellectual, family, military, or religious hegemony. The word oligarchy is from the Greek words for "few" (ὀλίγος olígos) and "rule" (ἀρχή arkhē). Such states are often controlled by politically powerful families whose children are heavily conditioned and mentored to be heirs of the power of the oligarchy. Oligarchies have been tyrannical throughout history, being completely reliant on public servitude to exist.

Corporate oligarchy

Corporate oligarchy is a form of power, governmental or operational, where such power effectively rests with a small, elite group of inside individuals or influential economic entities or devices, such as banks, commercial entities that act in complicity with, or at the whim of the oligarchy, often with little or no regard for constitutionally protected prerogatives.

METEOR SHOWER UPDATE

LEONID METEOR SHOWER: The Leonid meteor shower peaks this year on Nov. 17th. The shower begins on Tuesday morning around 0900 UT (4 a.m. EST; 1 a.m. PST) with a sprinkling of 20 to 30 meteors per hour over North America. The new Moon provides ideally dark conditions for viewing this initial flurry. The best place to be, however, is Asia, where forecasters expect as many as 300 Leonids per hour. The predicted outburst occurs between 2100 - 2200 UT, just before local dawn in that part of the world:

Got questions about the Leonids? Astronomer Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office will answer them during a live Leonid chat beginning at 4:00 p.m. EST on Monday, Nov. 16. Click here to join.

You can also listen to the Leonids. The Air Force Space Surveillance Radar is scanning the skies above Texas. When a Leonid passes over the facility--ping!--there is an echo. Tune into Spaceweather Radio for a live audio feed.

Daily Express UK | 'PLAGUE WORSE THAN SWINE FLU'

A cocktail of three flu viruses are reported to have mutated into a single pneumonic plague, which it is believed may be far more dangerous than swine flu. The death toll has reached 189 and more than 1 million people have been infected, most of them in the nine regions of Western Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has called in the World Health Organisation and a team of nine specialists are carrying out tests in Kiev and Lviv to identify the virus. Samples have been sent to London for analysis.

President Yushchenko said: “People are dying. The epidemic is killing doctors. This is absolutely inconceivable in the 21st Century.”

A doctor in Western Ukraine who did not want to be named, said:” We have carried out post mortems on two victims and found their lungs are as black as charcoal.

“They look like they have been burned. It’s terrifying.”

The suggestion that the United States would be excluded has aroused concerns among some US and Japanese officials who fear it could jeopardise the Japan-US alliance, the bedrock of post-war security in Asia.

"Japan has relied a bit too much on the United States until now," the newly elected Hatoyama said in October after a summit with China and South Korea. "I would like to map out policies to reach out to Asia, as a country of Asia."..............

Stimulus update: $514K per job 'created or saved' in Dayton
Washington Examiner

The Dayton Business Journal reports:

The Dayton area overall has created or saved more than 623 jobs as a result of the $320 million in stimulus funding that has been awarded.

If you don't live in Dayton, you'll be happy to know that the federal government took your tax dollars and spent $514,000 per job to get Daytonians back to work. And that's assuming, contrary to our experience, so far that the jobs reported as "created or saved" are for real.

Swine Flu Updates -- State by State!!

H1N1 super flu plague in Ukraine sparks concern, conspiracy theories about origin -- Here's what we know with some degree of certainty about the H1N1 virus in Ukraine right now: nearly 300 people have died from the viral strain, and over 65,000 people have been hospitalized (the actual numbers are increasing by the hour). The virus appears to be either a highly aggressive mutation of the globally-circulating H1N1 strain, or a combination of three different influenza strains now circulating in Ukraine. Some observers suspect this new "super flu" might be labeled viral hemorrhagic pneumonia (meaning it destroys lung tissue until your lungs bleed so much that you drown in your own fluid), but that has not been confirmed by any official sources we're aware of.

NATIONAL SEVERE WEATHER MAP

United States recorded its wettest month of October on record

Over 40 states recorded above average precipitation during the month of October!

Examiner.com

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and based on preliminary data from the National Climatic Data Center, October 2009 was the wettest month of October on record overall across the United States.

The nation averaged precipitation amounts of 4.15 inches, nearly doubled the long-term average of 2.04 inches from 1901-2000.

Three states recorded their wettest month of October on record! (Iowa, Arkansas, and Louisiana)

Only 3 states: Florida, Utah, and Arizona recorded below normal precipitation.

Nearly 45 percent of the contiguous United States experienced moderately-to-extremely wet conditions at the end of October, according to the Palmer Index, which is the largest such footprint since February 2005.

The very wet month of October has helped many states along the mid- and Lower Mississippi Valley achieve or near their wettest years on record and has decreased drought overall with only 12 percent of the country experiencing drought conditions, which is the second smallest drought footprint of the decade, according to the NOAA report. (El Nino is the likely cause of extremely wet weather across the South)

Farmers scramble to finish harvest from hell

MARENGO, Illinois (Reuters) - Brothers Steve and Ron Pierce spent most of an hour in a chilly northern Illinois field last week clearing a clog of soybean chaff from the guts of their combine, using a mix of tools and their bare hands.

"The beans get tough when they pick up moisture," Steve Pierce said.

The clog had idled the $260,000 harvester, another delay in what has been the harvest from hell across the U.S. Midwest corn and soybean belt.

The clock is ticking on farmers like the Pierce brothers all across the Midwest as they scramble to bring in the largest U.S. soybean crop on record and the second-largest corn crop before winter arrives.

Late-maturing crops and persistent rain throughout October halted fieldwork, making this the slowest start for the U.S. harvest since the 1970s. The delays -- and questions about crop quality -- have kept Chicago Board of Trade grain markets on the boil.

Protesters Plan Huge Anti-Goldman Rally In Washington, DC on Monday Nov 16th

RUSSIAN BOMBERS’ SECRET UK MISSIONS ‘NOT A FRIENDLY ACT’

November 15, 2009 - BRITISH passenger jets are being endangered by long-range Russian bombers flying secret monthly missions around UK skies, the Government has warned.
The Ministry of Defence fears a catastrophic collision between civilian airliners and Russian “Bear” bombers, which have been heading towards Britain without notifying air traffic controllers.

The escalating risk is so serious that RAF fighters have been scrambled 10 times this year, and on 16 further occasions since 2007.

On each one, Tornado and Typhoon pilots made contact with Russian counterparts as civilian jets prepared emergency diversions to standard flight paths.

The ageing Russian Tupolev-95 bombers are believed to take off from bases near Archangel in Russia then fly at 25,000ft over the North Sea and travel as far as Hull and Lowestoft, testing and tracking British defence echanisms.

In a report last week, the Government agreed with the findings of backbench MPs who said Russia’s cat and mouse actions “risk leading to serious accidents” in “some of the busiest air routes in the world”.

Yet despite demands by the Commons Defence Committee for the Government to take a “more robust” approach with Russia, the Sunday Express has discovered that not one representation has been made to Moscow on the issue.

Last night, MP Bernard Jenkin, a Tory member of the defence committee, said he was “astonished” by the Government inaction.

The British Airline Pilots’ Association voiced its own concerns, calling for immediate assurances from Russia that it would start complying with international regulations.

However, defiant Russian officials said they would continue their hard line approach.

Gold coins market booms in Iran

November 15, 2009 - TEHRAN (Commodity Online): Following India and China, it is now Iran that is mopping up gold as precious reserves for the country. Iran's central bank said last week that it will inject 5 million newly-minted gold coins into the domestic market in order to control rising gold coin prices.

At Thursday's price of 2.8 million rials (about $280) for a standard gold coin in Iran, the total value of the planned intervention would amount to $1.4 billion.

The price of gold coins in Iran has risen sharply in line with developments on international markets where gold bullion has risen 28 per cent this year to a record high $1,122.85 an ounce.

Many Iranians buy gold coins as wedding gifts and also as a long-term investment. A standard gold coin weighs around 8.13 grams. It is also sold in smaller denominations of half a coin and a quarter of a coin.

'Five million gold coins, minted by the Central Bank of Iran, will be supplied to the market beginning on Saturday,' Central Bank Governor Mahmoud Bahmani said.

The Irna report did not give more details on the reasons for the central bank's planned gold market intervention, but it appeared in part to be an attempt to help bring down inflation and reduce liquidity in the economy.

During this year's meeting in Singapore, the uniform was silk tunic shirts with mandarin collars, in a choice of red or blue-gray. Obama cheerfully opted for the latter. But since he arrived at the summit a day late and just in time for a gala dinner, there was something of a scramble as the leaders pulled together a special photo session to include him
