Haiti earthquake: Survivors desperate for clean water as disease takes hold

The Guardian - ‎47 minutes ago‎
"There have been incidents of people looting or fighting for food. They are desperate, they have been three days without food or any assistance," the UN peacekeeping chief, Alain Le Roy, said. ...

Haiti: Desperate for the world to deliver

The wretched became the desperate in Haiti yesterday as, despite an extraordinary response from a world queuing up to deliver aid, emergency supplies were still not reaching those in greatest need.

World Pledges Quake Aid, Haitians Still Waiting

New York Times ‎2 hours ago‎
By REUTERS PORT-AU-PRINCE (Reuters) - World leaders have stepped up to pledge aid to rebuild a devastated Haiti, but on the streets of its wrecked capital quake survivors were still waiting on Sunday for the basics: food, water and medicine.

The US is failing Haiti -- again

--There is nobody to co-ordinate the most rudimentary relief and rescue efforts

By Patrick Cockburn

16 Jan 2010 The US-run aid effort for Haiti is beginning to look chillingly similar to the criminally slow and disorganised US government support for New Orleans after it was devastated by hurricane Katrina in 2005. Five years ago President [sic] Bush was famously mute and detached when the levees broke in Louisiana... The rhetoric from Washington has been very different during these two disasters, but the outcome may be much the same. In both cases very little aid arrived at the time it was most needed and, in the case of Port-au-Prince, when people trapped under collapsed buildings were still alive. When foreign rescue teams with heavy lifting gear does come it will be too late.

Iran dispatches humanitarian aid to Haiti

16 Jan 2010 Iran's Red Crescent society says it has dispatched about 30 tonnes of humanitarian aid including food, tents and medicine to quake-ridden Haiti. "Iran's relief supplies were sent to Haiti via a cargo plane Saturday morning," Head of Iran's Red Crescent Ahmad Esfandiyari said. Tents, sugar, tuna fish and detergents are among Iran's aid supplies to the disaster-hit nation.

President Obama and former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush walk to a news conference to discuss the relief and rebuilding efforts in Haiti. Obama announced that Clinton and Bush would lead an effort to raise funds for the stricken nation. "These two leaders send an unmistakable message to the people of Haiti and the world," Obama said of the former presidents flanking him in the Rose Garden. "In a moment of need, the United States stands united."

Tea Party turmoil erupts as volunteers quit

Volunteers question motives of organizer

Forum post:

"Good riddance. The Tea Party Movement became a front organization for Dick Army and his gang of Republicans. Them and Sarah Palin were co-opting the movement for Republican Party purposes. It would be the same Republican Party of neo-cons, needless wars and bloated budgets. It's time to get rid of the Democrats and Republicans who don't know how to balance budgets."

Rothschild Agents Take 10 Key Posts In Administration of Rookie President

... The truth about the Rhodes Scholarships is not known to the average American who is constantly told by the mass media that Rhodes Scholars (such as former President Bill Clinton) are among “the best and the brightest.”

The Rhodes Scholarships—awarded to Americans and students from other former British colonies—are funded by a trust set up by 19th Century British imperial figure Cecil Rhodes, whose intent was to indoctrinate these scholars with the theme that the American colonies should be reunited with the British Empire and that they should work through “public service” to achieve that goal.

But Rhodes wasn’t just some rich madcap dreamer. His ventures were underwritten by the international Rothschild dynasty operating from the financial district in London known as “The City”—the banking center of the Rothschild controlled British empire that also includes the London School of Economics.

So now a clique of internationalists trained in the idea of extinguishing American independence are ensconced in the Obama administration ....

Saddam Hussein: Clearly, the better deal:

Hundreds of Iraqis prevented from contesting elections

16 Jan 2010

In a far cry from political reconciliation in war-torn Iraq, the government has barred 500 candidates that had nominated for the March 7 national elections. The Iraq election commission made the decision but has not released the list of candidates banned. The country's current Defence Minister Abdulqadir al-Obeidi, and the nationalist politician Saleh al-Mutlak, however are believed to be on the list. [I am thinking everyone, save US corporaterrorists and Blackwater, wishes Saddam Hussein was running Iraq instead of the US-installed oil dictatorship. --LRP]

*****2010 Food Crisis for Dummies*****

http://www.marketskeptics.com/2009/12/2010-food-crisis-for-dummies.html

If you read any economic, financial, or political analysis for 2010 that doesn’t mention the food shortage looming next year, throw it in the trash, as it is worthless. There is overwhelming, undeniable evidence that the world will run out of food next year. When this happens, the resulting triple digit food inflation will lead panicking central banks around the world to dump their foreign reserves to appreciate their currencies and lower the cost of food imports, causing the collapse of the dollar, the treasury market, derivative markets, and the global financial system. The US will experience economic disintegration.

It may have been a surprise to her, but Saturday night's birthday dinner celebration for first lady Michelle Obama at the high-end Restaurant Nora in Washington was in the works for two weeks. Chief Benjamin Lambert tells The Washington Post he had plenty of time to prepare for the first couple's first visit to the posh organic eatery in Dupont Circle.
