It is said that demand determines what is supplied - and, our culture given the buying rush the day after Thanksgiving is what the rest of the world views our nation as ... materialistic consumers ... and, a nation that runs around the globe dropping bombs. The youth of this time period seem to busy playing with their electronic toys than to protest and ask what are we doing in Afghanistan or WHY are we dropping bombs from unmanned drones on Pakistan.
Why didn't we bomb Saudi Arabia - it wasn't people from Afghanistan going to flight schools in Florida. Obama bows to the king of Saudi Arabia and Bush held his hand!
Another week ahead ... and on with the jobless recovery that is being sold to American sheeple to keep them spending - while China is telling their people to buy gold and protect themselves financially from the collapsing US dollar. Seems like everyone else on the globe is aware of our printing money like crazy people ... with a bankrupt FDIC, Medicare, Social Security, and a government buying up car manufacturers, insurance companies, etc. ... with a currency backed on nothing but "good faith" - or what - 'we'll bomb you' if you complain? I haven't even put in articles about the war we're trying to start in Central and South America! And, where is Hillary? ... So much news, so little time.
The New York Times Sunday Cover: Food Stamps For All!
The New York Times delivered a sobering message on Sunday with a lead story that read “Food Stamp Use Soars Across U.S., and Stigma Fades.” We’re all hurting, the paper seemed to say, as a giant United States infographic detailing the change in number of people who receive food stamps over the past two years occupied most of the space above the fold. The Great Recession indeed.
The cover story begins matter of factly and it’s clear we’re not in for a feel good Sunday human interest piece:
Driven by a painful mix of layoffs and rising food and fuel prices, the number of Americans receiving food stamps is projected to reach 28 million in the coming year, the highest level since the aid program began in the 1960s.
The piece puts the 2009 government price tag at about $36 billion, as 14 states reached a record number of recipients by last December. “One example is Michigan, where one in eight residents now receives food stamps,” reads the article, illustrated by the dark sections of the above map. See also: Nevada, Florida, Arizona. Ouch.
You can see another nifty looking, mood deflating Times graphic below, and read the whole downer of an article here.

Police killed in 'ambush' outside US Air Force base
Four police officers were shot dead yesterday in a cold-blooded ambush at a coffee shop on the edge of a US Air Force base in America’s Pacific Northwest.
The four uniformed officers, one of them a woman, were gunned down while working on their laptop computers as they prepared for work around 8:30am local time. Their marked patrol cars were parked outside.
Police described one suspect as a black man with “scruffy” facial hair wearing a black coat and jeans, who fled on foot. Initial reports said there may also have been a second gunman who was white ...

NZ scientist monitoring volcano in Vanuatu says eruptions not life threatening
Posted at 17:07 on 29 November, 2009 UTC
A New Zealand scientist monitoring a volcano that’s forced the relocation of more than 350 people in Vanuatu says its eruptions are not life-threatening.
The Vanuatu government asked for assistance from New Zealand to monitor Mt Garet on the island of Gaua because its own geohazards team is inadequately resourced.
Brad Scott from GNS Science arrived on Thursday and says its most likely weak eruptions will continue for several weeks or months.
He says the authorities have acted appropriately by moving people from the island’s west to the east over several days
.
But he says the volcanic ash and gas in the area is irritating:
“Downwind ashfall is falling on the forest, its falling on the villages, its falling on the gardens. In some places its already started to create a desert, in other places its only light ashfall. But people are suffering from sore eyes, throat inflammation, and there’s some stomach and diarrohea problems also coming through.”
Brad Scott says he’ll leave seismic equipment on the island so the volcano can be monitored from New Zealand.

Ireland inundated by record rainfall

DUBLIN, Ireland ― The Lakes of Killarney have overflowed, the River Shannon has become a lake, and the city of Galway is practically cut off, due to the worst floods in memory in the west and south of Ireland this week.
Ireland is being drenched day after day by rain belts of such extraordinary intensity that climate experts are wondering whether the future of the land of Saints and Scholars is to be a constant deluge. The omens are not good for a country that has always had more wet days than dry.
This is the third year in succession that the Irish counties on the Atlantic seaboard have experienced record rains and flooding. This time, waters rose in rivers and lakes and gushed out of drains and manholes because the tropical downpours fell on land already saturated by earlier rains.
