There is the old expression of 'sleeping in the bed you've made' ... and, the majority of Americans are still asleep in that bed. A bed constructed from decades of spending, spending and being entertained by television.

If I would have to briefly define American 'culture' - television and spending could sum it up in my opinion this morning as I encountered another day's mountain of news stories.

House votes to turn down volume on TV commercials

WASHINGTON -- The House on Tuesday voted to level off the abrupt spikes in volume felt by television viewers during commercial breaks.

The bill is aimed at stopping TV ads from playing noticeably louder than programs. Right now, the government doesn't have much say in the volume of TV ads. It's been getting grievances about commercial loudness for decades.

Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) addressed critics who have asked why Congress has to get involved in the matter.

Magnetic fields trigger solar wind

INCOMING CME: This morning at 0120 UT, an eruption of magnetic fields around sunspot 1035 produced a long-duration C4-class solar flare and hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) in the general direction of Earth. Details of the blast will become clear when more data are downloaded from the SOHO and STEREO spacecraft. Meanwhile, high-latitude sky watchers should prepare for auroras when the CME arrives on or about Dec. 18th.

A solar flare is an explosion on the Sun that happens when energy stored in twisted magnetic fields (usually above sunspots) is suddenly released. Flares produce a burst of radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum, from radio waves to x-rays and gamma-rays. [more information]

Scientists classify solar flares according to their x-ray brightness in the wavelength range 1 to 8 Angstroms. There are 3 categories: X-class flares are big; they are major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms. M-class flares are medium-sized; they can cause brief radio blackouts that affect Earth's polar regions. Minor radiation storms sometimes follow an M-class flare. Compared to X- and M-class events, C-class flares are small with few noticeable consequences here on Earth.

UN'S COPENHAGEN GLOBAL WARMING BEING USED BY WESTERN ELITE'S AS AN EXCUSE FOR 'GLOBAL GOVERNANCE' and $$ FOR THE FEW

EPA taking away constitutional rights

On Dec. 7, a day which will live in infamy, a rogue agency of the unelected fourth branch of government, the EPA, in a harsh blow to American democracy seized from Congress its constitutional power to write the nation's laws. EPA granted itself power under the Clean Air Act to regulate CO2 emissions.

Congress last updated the Clean Air Act in 1990. It specifically considered and rejected regulation of CO2. EPA has no legal authority to regulate CO2.

Two years ago, in a bizarre ruling, the Supreme Court directed EPA to determine if CO2 was harmful. A ''yes'' answer would require EPA to regulate it. Would the foxes at EPA conclude anything but that they should guard the hen house?

Although some praise EPA for ''doing their patriotic duty'' by usurping congressional power, nothing could be further from the truth. They are violating the Constitution.

We don't have to agree whether humans cause global warming. We must agree, however, to protect our constitution and demand that Congress put EPA into its place. Congress can do this very simply by defunding any EPA activities for regulating CO2. Then, Congress (accountable to the people) should debate global warming legislation.

Copenhagen and EPA Announcement have Double Disaster Potential

Washington, D.C. – While climate change discussions continued at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., expressed concern about a sweeping announcement by the Environmental Protection Agency that could suffocate the economy and kill jobs and business production in the United States.

"Administrator Jackson´s announcement comes at a bad time for Americans who are struggling to keep their families afloat this holiday season. It is not a good idea to pressure Congress into passing climate change legislation that will kill jobs, raise energy prices, and make goods and services more expensive. Unelected bureaucrats at the EPA should not be making decisions of this magnitude and it is wrong for the Administration to use this backdoor method to implement their radical environmental agenda."

"This finding could lead to federal regulations affecting everything from vehicles to coal-fired power plants," said Enzi. "While the Senate needs to approve any treaty or agreement that could come out of the Copenhagen Conference, the EPA could have free reign over carbon emissions from now on, without Senate approval. This is not the role the EPA was ever intended to play."

EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson announced that carbon dioxide and seven other greenhouse gas emissions pose a danger to the public´s health and welfare. This announcement allows the EPA to use authority from the Clean Air Act to implement a nation-wide carbon emissions cap if Congress fails to enact climate legislation.

In 2007 the Supreme Court ordered the EPA to determine whether greenhouse gases qualify as a pollutant under the Clean Air Act.
